Suddenly the door opened behind me and a huge bearded man appeared. I was asked to keep shut with a loud threat. The rope tied on my wrists began to irritate me and I couldn’t think of anything else other than ways to get rid of them. The man standing beside me held a sharpened knife on his hand. The duct tape on my mouth suffocated me. The darkness of the room crept in my eyes and started playing certain visuals in my mind. I cursed myself for getting into the cab. I am the unluckiest man in the room. I heard a rumble. A car must have parked. Could it be the police? Anxiety blinded me from comprehending the situation and fear swallowed my breath. I heard footsteps approaching. From the darkness a woman was among them. She was wearing a cocktail dress. I couldn’t see her face. She stood there in the dark with other two men.
‘Untie him’, one of the male voices ordered. I was blindfolded as soon as they untied me. One of the men held my collar and rudely pushed me into a room that had a weird flowery smell. That reminded me of my pregnant wife. What if something happens to me? I have to see her. I took a deep breath and started regaining control of my mind. I need to create distraction. At that very instance, I heard a phone ringing. The person who was handling me answered it. This is it. I flung my fist at his upper body region. I couldn’t see so I hit him anywhere I my hands got first. I heard his grunt and his phone dropped. I opened my blindfold and without looking at the room I made a run for the exit. I saw a door and I rushed inside to see the most unexpected thing ever. The room was lit with candles and there lay a three-tier. I saw familiar faces. You bastards.
‘SURPRISE!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!’ screamed everyone.
The woman in cocktail dress with a bulge on her tummy came forward and hugged me and said ‘ I know things have been a little tough lately. So I wanted it to be a surprise’.
I kissed her forehead.
I was the luckiest man in the room.
